A dark round object moving rapidly south to north across the twilight sky, slightly west of the town, about 300 metres altitude. At first it was just a dark orb with some discernable colour but then the pilot lit the burner and it could clearly be identified as a modern montgolfiere type hot air balloon with a basket .

I believe this was a sunset hot air baloon flight and am reporting it here because similar sightings of unidentified flying objects have been reported in the past. There are a number of balloonists in Ireland who offer these rides on a commercial basis. Personally I would be a little concerned about being in the air after sunset because to the best of my knowledge the pilots are supposed to follow visual flight rules. i.e. land at sunset, not some time later.
